Abstract
India has emerged as the leading sugar producer since 2021-22, surpassing Brazil in production. The sugar industry’s expansion into ethanol biofuels has strengthened its financial standing. Press mud, a valuable sugar industry byproduct, has potential as a feedstock for biogas production through anaerobic digestion and purification into compressed biogas (CBG). With India producing approximately 11.4 million tonnes of press mud annually, utilizing this resource could enhance sustainability efforts within the sugar sector.
