This machine can weld 5 tubes and 6 fins together on top as well as bottom in one pass. In order to view the quality of weld, the workers need to inspect from time to time and in this regard Personnel Protective Equipments (PPE) were used. However, in order to aid as well as protect the welder in a more effective and ergonomic manner, new design was required which would also effectively reduce the effects of high temperature due to welding. To overcome the difficulties, a glass panel for viewing the bottom side weld was fabricated. This project work involves pneumatic, electrical and mechanical principles. A Lead screw slider actuated by an electric motor was connected with a pneumatic Double Acting Cylinder (DAC). A ball and socket joint was provided connecting the rod end of the piston and the glass panel to aid the toggling of the panel. To verify the safety and credibility of design, a structural analysis was done in an analysis software (MSC NASTRAN).The pneumatic circuit design was done and verified using FESTO-FLUIDSIM software. The operator control panel was placed near the operator enter point of the machine. This panel was incorporated with a switch for the vertical motion of the panel and also a push button to activate the pneumatic cylinder arrangement. Reference 1.
